Sometimes, you don’t want to do it alone.

In DDRT, you can choose to partner up and create a Tag Team for an individual match, several matches, or even to challenge for the Tag Team Championship belts.

You can choose a Stable member as your partner, or another player of the same Faction.

Regardless of the combination, Tag Team matches play out like any other. The combined ranks of each Tag Team are affected by Style Bonuses between each participant.

The No Sell card can only be played on the Tag Team as a unit, not an individual member.

Stable Tag Teams Stable Player Tag Teams

There are 3 types of Tag Teams:

  • A player and their Stable member
  • 2 players of the same Faction
  • or 2 Superstars (not controlled by a player).

If you have a Stable in play, you can choose to wrestle a Tag Team match with one of those Stable members as your partner. You cannot have the Stable members wrestle together while you wrestle someone else. If you choose a Tag Team match, the Tier your Stable Tag Team partner wrestles at will be your own.

So let’s say I’m playing a Heel Not Of This World Flyer named Twinkle-Toes McGee and I have a Stable card in play. I have Bradley Bufford and Hemlock Hayes attached to that card as a part of my Stable, “The Court of Broken Hearts”.

I’m not ready to go for the Tag Team Championships just yet, but I want to wrestle in a Tag Team match. Twinkle-Toes is Rank 10, an Opener. During Event setup, I opt to wrestle a Tag Team match with Bradley Bufford as my partner. Our combined Tag Team Rank as Openers would be 17 (Bradley Bufford is a Rank 7 Opener). I draw two Superstars, face down, to wrestle in the Tag Team match.

When I flip over the Superstar cards, I see we’re facing Wildcat and Bolivar The Butcher. Their combined Opener ranks are 14. Let’s also assume I’m playing in Solo Mode and the Action Deck is in use. We’ll fast-forward to when the match begins, and I will draw only 1 Action card for the opposing Tag Team. As a team, they are an Opener. Let’s say it was a Not So Fast One-Shot that would Stop a Run-In. This means if I tried to have Hemlock Hayes Run-In to help us, he’d be stopped from doing so.

Another factor to look at would be the Style Bonuses that exist between all the participants. As a Flyer, I’m strong with Aerial Moves. We can see that Wildcat is weak to Aerial Moves. Thus, I get a +2 bonus in this match. I’ll grab a +2 bonus chit to remind myself. No other bonuses exist between the remaining participants. Our new combined Rank is 19. The opposing Tag Team is 14. We are about to defeat them easily, and we’ll be Stealing The Show since we’re 5 points above them. I decide there’s no reason to spend any Crowd Points on abilities or play any Weapons or One-Shots and we accept our pinfall victory. I’ll be able to claim 1 Crowd Point reward from the Event Pool, 1 Match Point, and 1 Gear card from the 3 drawn face up. Since we also Stole the Show, we earn an Extra Reward, and I’ll opt to claim a second Gear card from the 2 that remain.

For our next example, let’s say there are 2 players. Dwayne is playing a Heel Dystopian Brawler, Ashbreaker, and is currently a Midcarder Rank 22. The other Heel player, Rob, is playing an Antagonist Grappler, Sneaky Silus, and is currently an Opener Rank 11. Dwayne and Rob decide they want to wrestle together in a Tag Team match, and since the Tag Team Champions, The Cryptokeeper and Steady Eddie, are defending, Rob and Dwayne lay down the challenge.

Since Ashbreaker is a Midcarder, their team will wrestle at the Midcarder Tier, which is also the minimum Tier you can challenge the Tag Team Champions at. The combined Rank of the Tag Team Champions is 39 (including the +2 for each Tag Team Championship Title). Ashbreaker is a Brawler, strong with Strikes, and will get a +2 bonus since Steady Eddie is weak to Strikes. Sneaky Silus will get a +2 bonus since The Cryptokeeper is weak to GrapplesSteady Eddie will get a +2 bonus since Ashbreaker is weak to Grapples, and The Cryptokeeper will get a +2 bonus since Silus is weak to Aerial Moves. So, even before the match begins, the champions are at Rank 43 and the challengers are at Rank 37.

Assuming we’re in 2 Player Mode with the Action Deck in use, we’ll draw 2 Action cards for the champions since they are competing at the Midcarder Tier. We draw DQ Risk and 2X4. First, since the players are the target of the DQ Risk, Rob decides to roll for DQ for that nasty thumb to the eye (poor Steady Eddie, his eye is crooked now). He rolls a 2 and decides to spend a Crowd Point to activate his Nothing To See Here ability and rerolls the result. He gets a 6 this time, and the match continues. Next, we roll the DQ Risk for the 2X4 Weapon use. The champions roll a 6, evade DQ, and get a +1 bonus bringing their Rank to 44. Now, they roll again to see if one of the players is Injured by the Weapon and roll a 3, no Injury.

With the odds stacked against them, Rob and Dwayne contemplate what to do. They have to make up 7 points to win. Rob plays a No Sell card on his opponents and draws another Gear card to his hand. The No Sell negates the single highest bonus for the team they’re facing, which is Steady Eddie’s Flophouse Finisher. Since his Finisher bonus is +7, that brings the challengers 1 point ahead, 37 to 36. Ashbreaker and Sneaky Silus claim the Tag Team Championships.

Rob and Dwayne each claim 2 Crowd Points from the Event pool and 2 Match Points. Even though Rob was at the Opener Tier, he wrestled in a Midcarder match. Thus, he earns Midcarder rewards, but since this was a Tag Team match, the Gear rewards are shared. There are 3 Gear cards face up to choose from. The team is due 2 Gear cards total, not 2 each. Rob and Dwayne each choose 1 Gear as their reward.

Had they wrestled at the Opener Tier, they would only be due 1 Gear reward and one player would not get a Gear reward, but luckily Dwayne helped Rob in many ways by escalating his performance and rewards. Now, Rob is no longer an Opener. Rob is a Midcarder rank 15 and a champion.
