Developer’s Notes
This gimmick is inspired by all the kings of the ring.
When this Gimmick is in play, it adds 2 Crowd Points to the Event Pool during event setup.
This is one of those gimmicks that has 2 special Attire cards, Crown and Scepter. These cards are not supposed to be shuffled into the Gear deck, but still count as Gear.
Crown is slotless Attire that requires the Ring Royalty gimmick. No other gimmick can equip or acquire Crown. Crown can be tapped-out to supply 2 Crowd Points. Like with all Attire that can be tapped-out for Crowd Points, you get the effect of spending the Crowd Points. You’re not actually taking physical Crowd Point tokens from any pool. These Crowd Points are meant to be used immediately upon tapping-out.
Scepter is also a slotless Attire that requires the Ring Royalty gimmick. Scepter is your sneaky Weapon in disguise. While it looks like a simple prop to accentuate your gimmick, it’s actually a Weapon the referees don’t expect. It has all the properties of a regular Weapon without the DQ risk. There is no risk of injury when using this Weapon. Like with all Weapons, it can be stopped or have its target changed. Unlike playing a Weapon card, you do not draw another Gear card when you tap-out Scepter to use it as a Weapon.
Ring Royalty has a trait that protects a Captivating Entrance that you play in your match from One-Shots or abilities.
The 1 Crowd Point ability allows you to search the Gear deck for a Captivating Entrance card. There are only 2 Captivating Entrance cards in the Gear deck. When you search any deck for a card, you can also search the discard pile for the card. If other players hold these cards in their hands without playing them, it could weaken your gimmick.
The 3 Crowd Point ability triples the bonus of any Captivating Entrance you play.
All these abilities work together. Ring Royalty is known for a grand entry. Captivating Entrance needs to be played before any other One-Shot or Weapon. The trait protects this card from being invalidated when you play it in your match. When tripled, the Captivating Entrance bonus goes to +9. This can only be applied once. You can’t keep triggering the ability to triple the bonus after it’s already been tripled.
You can triple another Captivating Entrance that’s not one that you played or is in another match. Thematically, you could say that the wrestler with the Ring Royalty gimmick accompanied another wrestler to the ring and lent their excellence to the recipient.
If Ring Royalty plays Captivating Entrance at the start of their match, it doesn’t get discarded to the Gear discard pile until the match is over. If Ring Royalty then decides to trigger their 1 Crowd Point ability to search the Gear deck for Captivating Entrance, they will start by searching the main Gear deck and then move on to the discards if there isn’t one in the main Gear deck. This could conflict with a Heel’s ability to buy the top card of the Gear discard pile. This would not be considered a bidding war and would need to be resolved another way. The Commentator should decide.
Below is my response to a question. This should be worked into the text above.
You do not have to spend the 3 Crowd Points to boost when Captivating Entrance is played. You can wait. The wrestling match isn’t really linear. It’s more like you’re crafting the elements of a story. When all the cards are played, you can really let the Commentator read back what’s happened. So, if you use the ability after a few other cards have been played, the story will have changed in retrospect. The trait immunizes Captivating Entrance so it can’t have No Sell played on it because it could very well be your highest bonus provided by Gear.
